Position Purpose:

The Technical Lead, Advanced Planning will coordinate new energy technologies initiatives such as micro grid storage, electric vehicle infrastructure integration , low carbon communities, block chain technology, etc. There is a great focus on integration, interoperability and standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical evaluation and market research of emerging technologies related to the delivery of energy services to utility customers including electric vehicles (EV’s), microgrids, renewables, Net Zero Energy technologists and others
  • Lead the system design, deployment and the integration of emerging technologies into the utility grid and assist in integrating such assets with existing operational protocols
  • Manage the operation and optimization of existing Advanced Planning projects and demonstrations to meet the pre-defined objectives
  • Support data aggregation and analysis to help utility grid transformers and innovation, develop new business models, influence the markets and support regulatory transformation for projects in Canada
  • Lead the technical study portion in support of RFP’s for funding opportunities
  • Participate in industry events, conferences, demonstration tours and customer visits
  • Other duties as assigned 

Skills & Qualifications:

Education

  • Degree in Engineering
  • P.Eng an asset
  • Master’s Degree in electrical engineering an asset 

Specialized knowledge

  • Knowledge in SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of communication systems (serial, Ethernet) and standards including protocols such as Modbus, IEC61850, DNP3, etc.
  • Knowledge of distribution systems and technology
  • Knowledge of heating systems and technology (gas, combined heat and power, geothermal, etc.) is a strong asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, including advanced Excel skills 

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years’ related work experience, preferably specializing in energy or utilities
  • Knowledge of and experience working in the Utility/Energy sector is a strong asset
