  • Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited - which distributes electricity and engages in Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) activities; and
    Toronto Hydro Energy Services Inc. - which provides street lighting services.
     

The principal business of the Corporation and its subsidiaries is the distribution of electricity by Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited. Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited owns and operates the electricity distribution system for Canada’s largest city and distributes approximately 19% of the electricity consumed in the province of Ontario.

Construction and Maintenance Supervisor

 

Reporting to the Director, Design & Construction- East, the Construction & Maintenance Supervisor is accountable for planned and emergency reactive work activities in construction, maintenance, operations, customer tasks, and contract administration. In compliance with standard construction practices, the Supervisor is responsible to administer work and provide support as required to ensure that projects are completed in a safe, reliable, customer focused, cost effective, and efficient manner.  This position will be based from our 500 Commissioners St. location, however, work location may change based on operational needs.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Supervises multiple trade and utility groups; Provides performance and attendance management feedback, development, and safety management
  • Manages projects through conceptual design, construction and energization stage ensuring safety, timeliness, cost and quality targets achieved
  • Ensures equipment installations in compliance with Regulatory requirements; Electrical Safety Authority, Utility Standards, Municipal consent requirements, etc.
  • Leads plans and processes for proactive safety and environmental programs
  • Conducts crew site visits and safety inspections
  • Project Lead supporting contract execution, construction completion and safe energization
  • Monitors contractor activity to ensure standards and objectives are met; coordinates with internal staff as required
  • Leads safety meetings and resolves safety issues
  • System standby duties including site chief responsibilities in the event of major system failure; participates in after-hours call out for restoration of power during emergency reactive events
  • Represent Toronto Hydro in meetings with outside agencies 
  • Manages cost performance, certifies and releases payment in accordance with project completion
  • Identifies and implements productivity improvements and measurements; evaluation of new tools, processes and equipment
     

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Journeyperson Power Cable or Lineperson (Power Line Technician) Certificate is preferred.  Candidates with equivalent related education, experience and certification may also be considered
  • Three to five (3-5) years of supervisory experience working in the electrical field. An alternative combination of leadership & training experience, may be considered
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a utility or commercial/ industrial construction and maintenance environment
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, EUSA Rule Book, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and relevant safety, electrical and environmental legislation and regulations
  • Familiar with reading electrical drawings, work protection codes, lockout & tag out procedures, feeder/operating prints, overhead, underground work practices and standards
  • Understanding of project management methodology, project oversight and control
  • Develop and administer contracts to leverage external resources to support capital work program
  • Strong leadership skills; acts as a resource and coach to motivate and encourage staff
  • Models customer-focussed approach in all decisions and actions
  • Previous oversight of departmental spending, including materials, over time, and vehicle related expenses
  • Familiar with various computer systems/applications including safety performance tracking systems, accident/incident investigation techniques, work management and general office automation tools
  • Manages risks to protect the health and safety of employees and the public, and shows commitment to sustainability
