STATION ELECTRICIAN/TECHNICIAN /    APPRENTICE

Power Systems Division

 

Under the general direction and guidance of the Electrical and Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing electrical/mechanical construction and maintenance on the utility’s substations, vaults, Operations Centre and associated buildings in a safe and efficient manner. As part of the position, candidate may be required to enroll in and successfully complete a MEARIE Substation Electrician Apprenticeship.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Mandatory:

  • A MEARIE Journeyperson Station Maintenance Electrician (or equivalent) or 3rd or 4th Year MEARIE Station Technician Apprentice and Certification as an Inter-Provincial Journeyperson Electrician (Construction & Maintenance).
  • Active Ontario Colleges of Trades (OCOT) Membership.
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • 5 years electrical experience working in an Electrical Utility.
  • Competent with computer software applications.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License with an excellent driving record. Note: A Driver’s Abstract will be processed by Thunder Bay Hydro to verify that the applicant has no more than 6 demerit points.
  • Proven safety record and good knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, problem solving, organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills with a commitment to continuous improvement and teamwork are necessary.

Preferred:

    • Electrical / Electronic Technician / Technologist Diploma.
    • Five (5) years of related work experience in a utility environment.
    • Current First Aid/CPR and WHMIS training.
    • Knowledge of SCADA, radio or process control equipment.

    Thunder Bay Hydro may also consider applications for a New Station Technician Apprentice:

      • For candidates not holding a Journeyperson Substation Technician Certificate, or have status as a 3rd or 4th Year MEARIE Substation Technician Apprentice, the following may also be considered:
