We are currently seeking an energetic individual who possess these qualities to join our team as a GIS and CAD Technician. 

GIS and CAD Technician (1 year Contract) 

Reporting to a Supervisor, GIS and Records Management, the GIS and CAD Technician is accountable for maintaining the GIS system and electronic drawings, and creating new electronic drawings for electrical distribution construction, including overhead projects, underground projects, subdivisions, pad pages and standard drawings.

Duties include:

  • Maintain electronic drawings and create new electronic drawings for electrical distribution construction, including overhead projects, underground projects, subdivisions, pad pages, standard drawings, etc.
  • Maintain, edit and import distribution network information into the ESRI ArcFM Geographical Information System (GIS)
  • Perform recording/drafting for permanent records, job documents and associated drawings
  • Issuing permanent records/drawings as required by other departments
  • Maintain records for equipment information, update drawing indexes, upload electronic files linking to GIS
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Completion of a GIS program at the community college level or a degree/diploma that required extensive use of GIS (and AutoCAD is also required)
  • Excellent working knowledge of Windows, AutoCAD/Map3D, ESRI ArcMap/ArcFM
  • Two years of AutoCAD and GIS experience in an electrical utility or related business
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and related drawings
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Extensive computer skills using MS Office
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Strong orientation to detail.
  • Sound understanding of maintenance/operations procedures.
  • Excellent attendance record and strong safety awareness
