Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Design, this position is responsible for determining the electrical supply service for single phase and three phase requirements, associated costs and making appropriate supply arrangements for temporary service supplies, new and upgraded primary and secondary services. The incumbent coordinates civil contractors and PowerStream crews and inspects installations for new, upgraded and temporary services.

Responsibilities:

  1. Determines customer and electrical load requirements from attending site meetings and/or service applications for new, temporary and upgraded electrical services.
  2. Designs and drafts construction drawings, prices charges for installation of services and provides service designs and associated costs for customers.
  3. Coordinates installation of underground infill services with customers, contractors and line supervisors.  Inspects installation and approves contractor charges and materials required.
  4. Responsible for verification of name plate data and secondary service connections in energized equipment.
  5. Assesses and resolves customer complaints and advises customers and electricians of service standards and associated charges. 
  6. Liaises with customers, internal departments and external agencies for timely and efficient coordination of service installation.
  7. Assists in maintaining accurate records and data bases.
  8. Safety:  Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, EUSR rules, PowerStream policies and procedures and safe work practices  that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using PowerStream procedures.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of 3 years related experience

Education and Professional Designations:

  • Requires a 2 year community college diploma, Electrical Engineering Technician.
  • Eligible for registration for OACETT.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of Conditions of Service and their application.
  • Requires basic understanding of utility standards, work practices and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
  • Requires intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and techniques, including electrical theory, technical aspects of primary/secondary service capacity.

Skills and Competencies:

  •  Demonstrated ability to solve moderately complex problems.
  • Requires intermediate skills in the use of computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with coworkers and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company.
  • Requires valid Class “G” driver’s license.
  • Requires basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements.
