Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Lines, this position is responsible for planning all PowerStream Inspections staff at all locations, to ensure safe work practices and procedures are carried out in the inspection of electrical and civil inspection installations in all PowerStream. The incumbent is responsible for leading and organizing the Inspectors to ensure that construction complies with PowerStream's specifications, standards, policies and design procedures and is responsible for preparing all documentation required for each project.

Responsibilities:

  1. Co-ordinates and plans the work of the Inspection staff to ensure a safe working environment for staff    and members of the public.
  2. Work in capacity of an Inspector Sub Foreperson, to provide quality assurance inspections and safety checks as required on the Inspection staff and installation contractors.
  3. Assist Senior Locator in field investigation on problem locates performed by PowerStream Cable Locators and PowerStream Locate Service Provider.
  4. Assist in the department management of the Construction Verification Program (CVP) (Ontario Regulation 22/04).
  5. Facilitate training for staff and contractors on the PowerStream construction Verification Program (CVP) and self-inspection program.
  6. Meet with the Inspectors on a frequent basis to help ensure consistency of work practices and procedures.
  7. Perform inspection of overhead and underground installations to ensure that Ontario Regulation 22/04 is adhered to.
  8.  Review "Issued for Construction drawings", document date received, and assign work. Ensure jobs are completed in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.
  9. Assist Supervisor with ensuring Inspectors and qualified contractors are providing timely and accurate "As-built markup" drawings of hydro plant installed to ensure compliance with PowerStream standards, specifications and design.
  10. Liaise with internal departments and contractors regarding service requirements and to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner. Ensure all Inspectors As-Built drawings are scanned into File Nexus and drawings sent to the Lines Department for completion.
  11. Prepares and completes work order documentation, time sheets and various reports as required.
  12. Access energized transformers and switchgears as needed.
  13. Obtain hold-offs as required.
  14. Hold work permits on job site as needed.
  15. Must be available to perform cable locate duties after hours when on-call.
  16. Safety: Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, IHSA rules, PowerStream policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using PowerStream procedures.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Requires a minimum five years of experience inspecting electrical distribution projects.

Education and Professional Designations:

  • Requires a minimum of a high school graduation diploma.
  • Requires a Journeyman Power Lineperson Certificate.
  • Certified in the Utility Protection Code.
  • Cable Locating certificate.
  • Community college diploma an asset.
  • CET certification an asset.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, coordinate and mentor a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve moderately complex problems.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with coworkers and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate the prevention, management and/or resolution of conflicts.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of IHSA rules and other related safety regulations.
  • Requires a valid Class "G" driver's license.
