Entegrus Powerlines, a progressive company dedicated to providing the highest level of service and a positive work environment, requires a Junior System Design Engineer.              

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering, this position will assist with review and monitoring of engineering designs, develop engineering processes, troubleshoot distribution system technology and perform engineering modelling and studies. 

Entegrus is seeking a recent university graduate with a degree in electrical engineering and 1-2 years of relevant industry experience for the position of Junior System Design Engineer. 

Entegrus offers competitive salaries along with a complete health and pension benefits package. In addition, the successful candidate will be provided with a 12 month training program, which will include both on-the-job training and technical engineering courses. Further, the successful candidate will be assigned a management mentor and supported in their pursuit of a Professional Engineering Designation (PENG). Upon attainment of the PENG designation, the successful candidate can expect to be promoted to System Design Engineer. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the review and monitoring of the designs and layouts for new distribution plant assets, as well as modifications to existing distribution plant assets;
  • Assist in the development and update of engineering processes and procedures to ensure compliance with Ontario Regulation 22/04, Electrical Distribution Safety;
  • Conduct in-field monitoring and oversight of distribution plant equipment, including substations;
  • Champion development of internal work order management systems with respect to the installation of new services and modifications to existing services;
  • Assist with the review of engineering quotes, as well as review of electrical equipment and apparatus intended for use in the distribution system;
  • Perform engineering calculations and system modelling studies;
  • Assist in the development of short and long-range plans and departmental budgets;
  • Troubleshoot distribution system technology and conditions and propose/execute resolutions;
  • Instruct and work with contractors and consultants, as required, for the completion of assigned projects;
  • Create and present reports as requested. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Electrical Engineering Degree 

Experience: 1-2 years of relevant industry work experience is preferred 

Knowledge: Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering concepts and typical associated software products is required. Knowledge in electrical distribution designs, industry standards, and work practices would be an asset. Understanding of industry regulations, SCADA, GIS and protection and control concepts would also be an asset. 

Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and time management skills are required. The successful candidate is expected to combine strong engineering skills and numerical analysis with creative problem solving. Mechanical aptitude is considered an asset. The successful candidate will be required to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical people. 

Other: Eligibility and intent to pursue a PENG 

This is a permanent, full-time, non-union position. Current hours of work are from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
