We are presently inviting applications for two Full-Time positions of:

JOURNEYPERSON POWERLINE TECHNICIAN

Applications will be considered from candidates who meet the following minimum qualifications

WORK PERFORMED:

  • Perform work as assigned by the Line Supervisor, including, but not limited to:
  • Installing, maintaining and removing power system poles and structures
  • Installing and maintaining overhead and underground power systems
  • Splicing and terminating conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution networks
  • Troubleshooting overhead and underground power systems
  • Installing, maintaining and removing transformers and hardware
  • Installing, operating and maintaining system protection, control and instrumentation equipment and communications systems
  • A successful applicant must be flexible and be able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions as may arise on a daily or weekly basis
  • Complete specific projects and work plans, as assigned as a part of a line crew, by using the appropriate procedures, tools, equipment and related materials safely, effectively and efficiently
  • Ensure that all work is conducted in a professional manner using high quality principles of the trade
  • Ensure that the standards of workplace safety are maintained in accordance with Essex Powerlines Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and all applicable Health and Safety legislation
  • Perform as a contributing member in a team environment
  • Perform all related job position duties 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must posses an Ontario Powerline Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal Certification (or equivalent) and a Grade 12 Highschool Diploma
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes, heavy lifting, stretching and pulling, climbing to work heights in proximity to high voltage energized lines in extreme weather conditions, year round
  • Must have a valid DZ driver’s license and clean abstract
  • Must have and excellent safety record, and continually demonstrate safe working habits and mechanical aptitude
  • Proven ability to work effectively and safely in a team setting and follow instructions from supervisor and peers
  • Must have good communication skills both oral and written, including ability to maintain log books and other records as required with computer aided devices
  • Good interpersonal skills, especially in dealing with customers
  • Readily available for On-Call Duty and Overtime
  • CPR/First Aid certification is an asset
