METER TECHNICIAN

(Consideration may be given to Apprentice entry level up to Journey person level)

This position is responsible for performing a variety of routine skilled and technical work, including maintenance, repair and installation of electric meters and associated equipment. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and timely completion of all required tasks in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, and Burlington Hydro policies & procedures. You will be responsible for assisting with the design, planning, coordination, operation and maintenance of all metering systems as per Measurement Canada, ESA, OEB, IESO and other legislative requirements, performing installation, removal and maintenance of all metering equipment and systems, including troubleshooting, cross phase and accuracy analysis. Additional day-to-day responsibilities consist of setting up and conducting tests, completing units and components under operational conditions, investigating design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, and obtaining data for development, standardization, and quality control and verifying design proposals. This position is required to respond to and resolve customer complaints relating to metering and meter accuracy issues and power quality issues, maintain applicable documents and records as required, while ensuring completion and recording of daily vehicle and equipment inspections. You will be expected to be on-call for first response when it is determined that you are qualified and competent. Desirable skills also include a positive approach to work and coworkers and a strong ability to adapt to change. Candidate must also have a clean “G” driver’s license.  

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary college diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, leading to registration as a certified Journeyman & Meter Technician; Journeyperson Metering Certificate that is accredited with the EDA or a recognized equivalent; or, if in an apprentice position, must be willing and able to be registered and complete the Mearie Metering Technician training program.
