Waterloo North Hydro is seeking an experienced Protection and Control Technologist. Reporting to the Protection & Control Supervisor, your duties will include the installation and maintenance of equipment, protection, control, and communication systems associated with 230 & 115 kV transformer stations, municipal substations, SCADA, distribution automation as well as providing on call services one week at a time. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, maintain, test and operate all protective devices and schemes associated with T.S. facilities, M.S. facilities and distribution automation systems.
  • Carry-out tests and maintenance procedures associated with transformers, tap changes, current transformers, potential transformers, reclosers and motor-operated switching devices.
  • Carry-out tests and maintain all circuitry associated with capacitors, batteries, uninterruptible power supplies, communication circuits, SCADA and other devices that have any type of control circuits.
  • Carry-out all duties of a Substation Electrician including electrical and mechanical work to install, test, troubleshoot, repair and maintain all TS & MS station primary switches, transformers, bus work, switchgear, high voltage cables, circuit breakers, etc.
  • Maintain up-to-date drawings and records and associated databases.
  • Operate all equipment at T.S. and M.S. facilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a three (3) year community college Electrical Power Technology program or equivalent. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related P&C experience in an electric utility or industrial setting, including the completion of P&C training courses.
  • Successful completion of the EDA’s Substation Electrician Program or its equivalent.
  • Must hold a valid class "D" with a condition "Z" driver's licence.
  • Physical ability to work on all transformer station and distribution system equipment, protection and control apparatus', in both an inside and outside environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
