We are currently seeking an energetic individual who possess these qualities to join our team as an:

Powerline Technician

Reporting to a Line Supervisor, the Powerline Technician is accountable for the maintenance, construction and repair of, overhead and underground distribution systems, as well as the operation of vehicles and equipment pertaining to the line trade.

Duties include:
• Safely construct, operate, inspect and maintain overhead work on energized primary and secondary systems
• Work on energized underground systems, cables, terminations and splicing
• Install and maintain street lights
• Perform regular stand-by duty and emergency call-outs
• Troubleshoot and analyze underground and overhead line faults with the use of proper tools, operating maps and experienced observation
• Maintain and repair tools and equipment
• Install wooden, concrete, steel and fiberglass poles
• Install and replace domestic meters
• Experience installing cable in trenches and make all required connections
• Safely operate company vehicles and equipment
• Encourage, coach and mentor apprentices and co-op students
• Take on the Lead Powerline Technician duties when required
• Committed to work in compliance with all health and safety and environmental legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, EUSR and Oakville Hydro’s Policies and Procedures. 

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
• Completion of secondary school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED)
• Completion of a Powerline Technician Program with Co-op experience
• Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) Trades Training Program - Powerline Technician
• Journeyperson Powerline Technician status with 4 years’ experience
• A valid Ontario Class `AZ' Driver's Licence (or valid G and must obtain DZ within 5 months of hire and AZ within 12 months of DZ) and possess an excellent driving record
• Ability to work effectively with hand tools
• Fully proficient in the IHSA Safe Work practices guide and Electrical Utility Safety Rules (EUSR) handbook
• Ability to analyze unusual occurrences in systems and repair them
• Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with the public and co-workers
