ERTH (Holdings) Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of ERTH Corporation, has an immediate opening for a

Meter Technician / Apprentice within our Metering Services Division. ERTH is located in Ingersoll, Ontario, and is currently looking for a dynamic individual with proven experience to join our team. 

The Metering Services Division provides a wide variety of service offerings to utilities, retail and industrial customers in the areas of

  • Wholesale metering as an IESO-registered Meter Service Provider (MSP)
  • Field services
  • Meter verification as a Measurement Canada-certified, ISO 9001 compliant Accredited Meter Verification program 

This exciting position offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic team and a diversified program where the incumbent will be exposed to many different aspects of metering. 

In addition to the required qualifications, skills and experience set out below, the successful candidate will be self-starter and problem solver who is willing to learn, enjoys working in a team environment and, above all, is committed to excellence in everything they do. 

As a meter technician/apprentice, you will be responsible for all aspects of metering, including: wholesale, retail and utility metering installations, registrations, maintenance and inspections and associated activities; and, inspecting and sealing meters in the AMV meter shop on behalf of Measurement Canada. 

Specific duties include:

  • Assist with the design, planning, coordination, operation and maintenance of metering systems as per Measurement Canada, ESA, OEB, IESO and other legislative requirements.
  • Install, remove, and maintain metering systems, including troubleshooting, cross phase, accuracy analysis and communication systems.
  • Respond to and resolve customer complaints relating to metering and meter accuracy issues and power quality issues, maintain applicable documents and records as required.
  • Interact with customers regarding installations, maintenance and disconnections, ensuring fulfillment of contract or work order instructions.
  • Register, monitor and respond to issues regarding MSP-related meter installations with the IESO. 
  • Inspect, seal and sign certificates for electricity meters and perform duties related to the maintenance of the AMV program that are in conformance with Measurement Canada (MC) standards as per the quality management system that has been established for the AMV program.
  • Participate in program, product and field audits by regulatory bodies for the AMV and MSP programs.
  • Assist other departments with emergency and scheduled work as required. 

Required skills, qualifications and experience: 

  • Post-Secondary Education in an Electrical Discipline – Electrical Technician or Technologist
  • Recognized trades training in metering preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and practical applications
  • At least one years’ experience in metering or a related field
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License
  • Experience working in an ISO-certified environment beneficial
  • Effective verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Effective problem solving and organizational skills
  • Must be available to work out of town as required
