GIS Analyst

 

Festival Hydro is a distribution company serving 20,000 customers in the municipalities of Stratford, St. Marys, Seaforth, Hensall, Zurich, Dashwood and Brussels. Festival Hydro is a progressive utility looking for an incumbent that supports our ongoing commitment to customer and operational excellence. 

The GIS Analyst role is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Work is conducted in a standard office environment however some field work may be required. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Participate in projects involving the development, implementation, design and maintenance of all aspects of the GIS
  • Aid in the migration of Festival Hydro’s Asset and Geospatial Records including the electrical distribution system assets, associated records and the electrical network connectivity within the GIS
  • Maintain geospatial data such as digital Ortho land-base mapping, land parcel, centerline information, and maps from various vendors to update and ensure accurate land base
  • Interpret engineering plans, maps, sketches, drawings and legal descriptions for GIS database development
  • Assist in the development of Geospatial Technologies through application, product and process innovation
  • Leverage scripts and models to automate GIS workflows
  • Assist with the integration of GIS with other internal systems
  • Support field data collection activities
  • Assist other employees in preparing detailed drawings
  • Support GIS consultants, vendors and suppliers
  • Develop and implement applications related to GIS data for internal/external stakeholders
  • Aid in high level system planning processes through the development of GIS data analysis and reporting
  • Assist Engineering department with other duties as required 

Qualifications 

Education and Experience 

  • Post-secondary degree or College diploma in Geomatics or GIS related field, and/or Engineering Technician or Technologist College diploma
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered 
  • Candidates with distribution system knowledge and work experience in an electric utility environment will be given preference 

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities 

  • Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS software including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcSDE, ArcGIS On-line, ArcFM Solution and SQL Database
  • Basic knowledge of electrical distribution systems or other utility networks and the concept of asset management is preferred
  • Experience in database design, database management as well as system integration between GIS and other engineering or business software systems
  • Proficiency in Python, Model Builder and knowledge of other programming languages is preferred
  • Ability to work from engineering prints (electrical and civil construction drawings), sketches, technical manuals, specifications and reports
  • Ability to analyze systems and procedures accurately and logically and to grasp new technical concepts quickly
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SCADA, Microsoft Office, Other Databases & Open Source GIS Software
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, analytical and time management skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers, municipal employees, external agencies, and external engineering consultants
  • Self-motivated while working independently, with the ability to prioritize work and make necessary adjustments throughout the day
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License in good standing
