About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic individual with exceptional customer service and technical skills. Working in a non-routine and very complex environment, the Engineering Technologist – Construction will deliver flawless project management and administration to achieve Oakville Hydro’s construction program objectives. The incumbent is accountable for the inspection of construction sites, processing contractor payments, as well as designing, preparing bills of materials and work orders for various projects inclusive of underground electrical distribution design for new and rebuild projects, new electrical service design for residential, industrial, commercial, and street light systems. 

Duties include:

  • Prepare and administer underground construction contracts
  • Assist in the preparation of capital budget proposals
  • Be the project manager for Oakville Hydro’s construction program
  • Facilitate construction site inspections for work completed by outside contractors to ensure work is flawlessly executed in accordance with Oakville Hydro’s plans, standards and specifications
  • Oversee the site surveys and layouts for overhead and/or underground construction projects
  • Maintain records for permanent recording 

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completion of a 3 year Electrical or Civil Engineering Technology program at a recognized post-secondary institution with a degree/diploma
  • Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T. or a professional engineer with P.Eng. (or be eligible for registration)
  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience with an electrical utility or related field
  • Advanced skill using Microsoft office programs and related computer software applications
  • Demonstrate a high degree of technical competence in design work
  • Proven time management and organization skills in an environment where rapidly changing priorities are the norm
  • Lead projects and initiatives that move the construction objectives forward
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be a highly engaged motivated team player
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that builds relationships with both internal and external clients
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence with an excellent driving record
