Intermediate Programmer / Analyst

(18-24 month contract)

 

Burlington Hydro Inc. is currently seeking an Intermediate Programmer/Analyst to join our IT team with the implementation of our new Customer Information System (CIS). Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you are customer service oriented and possess good communication skills to foster cooperation and collaboration with internal IT staff, end users and external vendors. You understand the need for accountability to IT Management and the end user for on-time, on-budget project completion and quality of work. 

As an Intermediate Programmer/Analyst you will work closely with the IT CIS implementation team for the collection, definition and documentation of application requirement changes. The role will see you providing application and technical support for various implementation assignments with a focus on report writing, forms/documents tailoring, programming assignments, assisting with the update of project implementation schedules and completing appropriate application documentation. You will provide application related support and training to end user departments on a daily basis. You will assist IT operations support staff as needed for application related support issues. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Intermediate Programmer/Analyst, you will: 

  • Assist with definition, creation and maintenance of report content for operational reporting, business intelligence, (dashboards, KPI reporting and some ‘Big Data’ analysis) and provide effective training and assistance to end user report authors
  • Under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, participate in the preparation of work specifications for in-house and 3rd party vendor modifications
  • Construct test plans, perform testing/debugging, documentation, implementation and end-user training for software change requests
  • Provide updates to team project implementation schedule for assigned tasks with responsibility for completing assigned itemized tasks on-time
  • Provide application and technical support for a variety of implementation tasks including data conversion, data verification, software configuration setup, access permissions setup, screen script changes, forms/document changes, internal programming modifications, program upgrades and end user training
  • Complete documentation for all assignments in alignment with IT documentation standards

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have the following: 

  • At least 3 years of post-secondary education in a Computer Programming discipline with work related experience through a co-operative work program or other employment opportunities
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Good understanding of, and demonstrated working knowledge in the construction of quality, performance-based SQL (Oracle, MS SQL Server)
  • Exposure to Java, XML, Microsoft SSIS, IBM COGNOS Reporting platform would be an asset
  • Ability to construct effective Test Cases and perform quality Unit Testing for application changes
  • Flexible, adaptable and proficient in regards to learning and understanding new technologies
  • Proven analytical and superior problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a positive approach to work and co-workers
  • Excellent attendance record
