Waterloo North Hydro (WNH) is a progressive electric distribution utility servicing the City of Waterloo and the Townships of Wellesley and Woolwich. We deliver energy to over 672 square km across a large urban and rural service area to approximately 57,000 customers. Our mission is to create value for our customers and shareholders by providing safe and reliable electrical distribution services at competitive rates. 

The Powerline Maintainer position is responsible for the construction, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of energized overhead and underground electrical distribution system at all voltages. The incumbent is responsible for safe and efficient installations that limit power outages and minimize service disruptions. 

Applications will be considered from candidates who meet the following minimum qualifications: 

• The candidate must be a Journeyman Powerline Maintainer holding a certificate issued by MEARIE or an Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate of Qualification (Ontario Trade Code 434A) or an approved equivalent. Will consider an Apprentice with substantial experience as a Powerline Maintainer who has successfully completed two years of line school.
• Grade 12 Secondary School Graduation Diploma.
• Class 'ARZ' driver's license in good standing.
• Must become certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR within twelve months.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must demonstrate an ability to interpret drawings, sketches and diagrams and to work from verbal and written instructions, specifications and standards.
• Must have experience operating a variety of tools and equipment in an outside environment.
• Must be able to perform the duties of the job including manual labour, work in underground vaults and physically able to climb poles and work at heights.
• Must deal with fellow employees and the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
• The successful candidates will be required to be available for emergency call-outs and occasional work on nights and weekends.
