Inspector/Cable Locator

 

Under the direction of the Lead-Hand, the Inspector/Cable Locator provides hydro locates, inspects new and replacement utility infrastructure, duct systems and transformer installations for adherence to specifications; in all areas serviced by EPCOR. 

EPCOR has one (1) full time permanent position available in Collingwood, ON! 

Reporting to the Inspector/Cable Locator Lead-Hand, the Inspector/Cable Locator is accountable for, but not limited to: 

  • Locating utility infrastructure for customers and contractors to ensure safety of excavator and prevent damage.
  • Providing reports and/or drawings for locates after completion.
  • Operating all locating equipment proficiently.
  • Maintaining transmitters and locator equipment to ensure locates are done efficiently and accurately.
  • Inspecting installations by others to ensure compliance with EPCOR’s Condition of Supply; Standard Designs; and Regulations.22/04.
  • Ensuring that all data related to the installation is documented and recorded.
  • Disconnecting and Reconnecting at the meter for non-payment issues.
  • Liaising with Manager, Hydro Services to review project designs.
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Utility Safety Rules (EUSR).
    • Reporting unsafe practices to Supervisor.
  • Working in a safe and efficient manner including health and safety legislation/regulations and departmental policies/procedures/practices.
  • Working in compliance with the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, applicable legislation, regulations, and statutes.
  • Ensuring that all necessary personal protective equipment (e.g. safety boots, hard hat, reflective vest, gloves, hearing protection, eye protection, etc.) are used and are maintained in good condition.
  • Providing back-up support to other Departments, as assigned, that are in accordance with job responsibilities and/or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: 

  • Degree in an Electrical Trade or equivalent
  • Minimum of one (1) year electrical utility experience
  • Electrical Awareness Certificate from EUSR or equivalent
  • Cable Locating Certificate
  • GIS experience (ESRI desktop and mobile field tools)
  • Knowledge of EUSR Safety Rules, ESA Regulations, standard electrical safety practices and procedures, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Complete understanding of Electric Underground Distribution drawings; Construction methods; Utility Standards, and specifications
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Good computer skills including Apple mobile device familiarity
  • Valid Class G Drivers License in good standing
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safety and effectively perform required duties 

You possess strong communication skills, including verbal and written, and have the ability to present information to groups. You work well independently and as part of groups focusing on specialized areas, and are fully engaged in your work, ensuring support is given to the Manager, Lead Hand and peers. Above all, you demonstrate a proactive focus on providing support to operations and other groups within Electrical Services.

Wage: $37.54

Hours of work: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
