Senior Policy Advisor

Are you a seasoned energy professional looking to apply your expertise in policy analysis and development? If so, consider joining the Distribution and Agency Policy Branch, where you will provide expert analysis and develop policy options on issues relating to the electricity system in Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will:

  • develop working relationships with local distribution companies and liaise with energy stakeholders, partner ministries and other levels of government and jurisdictions
  • identify contentious issues that have significant policy implications, assess risks and provide recommendations and technical briefings to senior management
  • develop policies and recommendations to ensure the electricity distribution sector is aligned with government policy
  • oversee the analysis of information related to legislation, regulations, economic and environmental trends and scanning, including qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • manage projects and determine terms of reference for consultants' studies

How do I qualify?

Policy Leadership and Coordination Skills:

  • You have experience providing leadership, guidance and coaching to project team members.
  • You have experience leading policy initiatives from conception to completion.
  • You have experience managing complex and sensitive project issues. 

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

  • You have oral communication and consultation skills to discuss policy options, strategies and issues with senior decision-makers.
  • You have written communication and computer skills to prepare a variety of tools, resources and briefing materials for senior management.
  • You have experience building collaborative partnerships with internal partners and external stakeholders. 

Industry Knowledge:

  • You have knowledge of the policies, standards and issues impacting energy regulation and distribution.
  • You have the ability to interpret and apply energy related legislation such as the Electricity Act, 1998 and the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998. 

Research and Analytical Skills:

  • You have experience designing and leading research and analytical studies.
  • You have experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to develop evidence-based policy options and recommendations.
  • You have experience developing performance measures to effectively assess the impact of government policies and programs. 

Computer Skills:

  • You are proficient in computer software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Internet/intranet in order to prepare briefing and presentation materials, reports and papers as well as conduct searches and communicate with partners and stakeholders. 

Salary Range: $77,450 - $112,571 per year
