Journeyman Lineperson / Senior Apprentice

Brantford Power Inc. (BPI) is seeking a qualified Journeyman Lineperson/Senior Apprentice with excellent communication skills, a collaborative attitude and a strong commitment to safety to join our Operations team. Reporting to the Senior Foreman of Operations, the Journeyman Lineperson/Senior Apprentice will be responsible for construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems. 

BPI is progressive utility that distributes electricity to approximately 40,600 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the City of Brantford. Our service area is exclusively urban with no rural sections and encompasses approximately 74 square kilometres. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Installation, repair and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical power lines and auxiliary equipment.
  • Troubleshooting, repair and restoration of system outages.
  • Maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Work as a team member and be able to communicate effectively with team members as required for overhead and underground work.
  • Must demonstrate an exceptional level of customer service and professionalism at all times.
  • Perform essential duties of the position including regular standby duties and the availability to respond and be present on site within thirty (30) minutes of receiving notification of a problem.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Hold an interprovincial Red Seal Certificate as a Powerline Technician (434A), or be enrolled as an Apprentice Powerline Technician with the College of Trades and have completed at least 6,000 apprenticeship hours.
  • A valid “DZ” driver’s licence in good standing; “AZR” driver’s licence is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and association regulations, IHSA’s Electrical Utility Safety Rules (EUSR), Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC) and safe work procedures are essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform all job tasks in all weather conditions.
