Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Supervisor Lines, this position is responsible for planning, leading, and organising daily inspection duties. The incumbent will perform electrical distribution inspection and provide training and direction to Inspectors to ensure compliance with Alectra specifications, standards, policies, and design.  The incumbent is also responsible for the coordination and direction of projects with external utilities, contractors, and internal departments to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality assurance inspections, safety checks and provide timely and accurate “As built mark-up” drawings.
  • Inspect the distribution system and materials used to ensure compliance with current Alectra standards and criteria.
  • Review contractor "As built" drawings to ensure compliance with Alectra standards, specifications and design.
  • Inspect maintenance work to ensure compliance with current Alectra standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Complete daily inspection reports, document compliance with Alectra Standards, and coordinate work with contractors and other work groups to ensure projects are completed safely, on time and on budget.
  • Actively participate in incident/accident investigations
  • Organize and/or hold work protection permits for the isolation/de-energization of the electrical distribution plant for safe completion of work in accordance with the UWPC.
  • Obtain hold-offs as required.
  • Meet with contractors/design technicians to discuss nature of work and deviations from designs required to meet unforeseen field conditions and make informed decisions
  • Document and verify requests for changes (RFC)
  • Performing and documenting contractor safety audits
  • Complete deficiency reports for capital and maintenance work.
  • Safely access energised equipment, such as transformers and switchgear, and obtain holdoffs when required.
  • Assist contractors with work around energised Alectra plant
  • Professionally manage customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Collect asset data and G.P.S. distribution facilities
  • Resolving contractor project issues and public concerns
  • Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, EUSR rules, Alectra policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures. 

Skills & Qualifications:

Education

  • Successful completion of Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or recognized equivalent
  • Journeyperson Powerline Technician certificate, Journeyman Underground Power Cable Technician Certificate, 2-year Electrical Technology Diploma, or recognized equivalent
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class G driver's license 

Specialized Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of the Electrical Utility Safety Rules and certified in the Utility Work Protection Code
  • Requires working knowledge of the OHSA, O.Reg. 22/04, Alectra Construction Verification Program, and other safety-related regulations
  • Sound knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems
  • Knowledge of Ontario Common Ground Alliance (ORGCA) best practices, industry locate standards, and damage prevention measures
  • Proficient computer skills, including the MS-Office suite, GIS, Enterprise applications, and mobile technology applications

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in electrical distribution trades or design

  • Willingness and ability to work in any type of weather conditions
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and civil drawings
  • Physically fit to perform position responsibilities and ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to work from work orders, specifications, standards and instructions
  • Able to effectively communicate with co-workers, contractors, and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong understanding of ESA rules and regulations as applicable to the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems
