POWERLINE TECHNICIAN JOURNEYPERSON

 

InnPower Corporation is the local distribution company serving over 18,000 customers in the Town of Innisfil and south Barrie, located north of Toronto near the shores of Lake Simcoe. 

InnPower currently has a vacancy for a Powerline Technician Journeyperson. This will be a union position reporting to the Distribution Operations Supervisor. 

As a Powerline Technician Journeyperson, your primary activity will focus on completing and/or assisting with construction and maintenance projects on energized overhead and/or underground distribution up to 44,000 volts. 

The preferred candidate will:

  • Complete with direction, construction and maintenance of all aspects of the distribution electrical network.
  • Have experience with an electrical utility in the areas of sub-transmission and primary distribution (overhead/underground).
  • Be available to perform regular stand-by and emergency call outs and respond within 30 minutes to the InnPower Operations yard.
  • Be in excellent physical condition in order to perform all duties, in all weather conditions associated with this role.
  • Perform all work in a manner that is safe, efficient and cost effective.
  • Good communication skills, written, verbally and electronically, including the ability to maintain good logs and other records.
  • Good decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess the ability to safely operate all required mechanical and vehicular equipment related to the trade.
  • Good analytical skills having the ability to identify and consider alternatives, resolve differences, and make recommendations on alternative directions.
  • Have Electrical knowledge, both practical and theoretical.
  • Works exceptionally well in a team environment

Qualifications 

  • Certification and Red Seal Endorsement as a Powerline Technician Journeyperson, including successful completion of MEARIE or IHSA Powerline Technician Training Program.
  • Minimum 3 years as a Powerline Technician.
  • High regard for personal and public safety in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a solid understanding of electric circuit theory.
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma – minimum of Grade 12. A Community College Diploma in electrical technology or a related field of study may be considered an asset.
  • Good knowledge of computer applications.
  • Valid DZ/AZ drivers license, in good standing).
  • Ability to work with confidence both aloft and within confined spaces.

Qualified applicants will be eligible for three weeks vacation, in addition to the opportunity to bank eighty (80) hours per year.
