Engineering Technician

 

 

Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. (WHESC) is a progressive electric distribution utility delivering electricity in a safe & reliable manner while maintaining a high quality of service to meet the needs of our 24,500 customers within the City of Welland. 

Primary Duties: 

  • Prepare distribution system designs, material lists, cost estimates, and drawing packages for overhead, underground, and substation installations
  • Prepare designs for the installation of new or upgraded residential or commercial service connections
  • Coordinate design and construction activities with external stakeholders including customers, municipalities, other utilities, developers, contractors, etc.
  • Liaise with field staff as required to support design and construction activities
  • Maintain record drawings, maps, and supporting documentation in WHESC’s GIS and related document management systems
  • Support supervisory staff in achieving the objectives of WHESC’s Distribution System Plan
  • Assist with the preparation of RFQ / RFP packages related to distribution system construction and maintenance activities
  • Perform field activities in support of design, asset management, and record verification
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of information as per PIPEDA, the Privacy Act and MFIPPA

Qualifications: 

  • Diploma in an Electrical Engineering Technician program from a recognized Community College with the Electrical Power option
  • O.A.C.E.T.T. designation
  • Minimum five years of experience in a Local Distribution Company engineering environment
  • Class “G” driver’s license in good standing

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Proficiency with GIS, CAD systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of USF standards
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound engineering judgment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and tactful manner
  • Proven interpersonal and consultative skills
  • Must be able to independently carry out assignments of substantial technical complexity
  • Demonstrated project coordination experience
  • Must demonstrate a working knowledge of Ontario Regulation 22/04, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
