ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (EIT)

 

Westario Power Inc. is now accepting applications for an Electrical Technician who is directly responsible to the Planning and Design Engineer, for the design of overhead and underground distribution system and have GIS background.

Westario Power’s headquarters are located in the Municipality of Brockton serving over 24,000 customers in fifteen communities within Grey, Bruce, Huron and Wellington counties.

To be considered, candidates must possess as a minimum:

  • Must be knowledgeable for basic electrical theory and the methodology used to design distribution overhead and underground system that is consist of pole, transformer and other electrical equipment design.
  • Prepares cost estimate of electrical service for customer driven jobs and projects.
  • Creates, modifies, interprets, organizes and maintains spatial and non-spatial data, asset inventory, system connectivity, land base maps, imagery and third party infrastructure in Esri GIS to support business functions required by internal staff and stakeholders.
  • Collect distribution data and maintain the data integrity to support business analytics and decision making within organization.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills and be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with internal/external customers and electrical industry partners.
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions, and works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Ability to read and interpret distribution system construction drawings and supporting documents.
  • Knowledge of the Electrical Safety Authority Regulation 22/04, Utility Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid and all other applicable legislation.

In addition, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to:

  • Successful completion of the college electrical technology program and a minimum of 7-10 years relevant experience.
  • To have knowledge in MS word, excel, AutoCAD and knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise, SpidaCalc and Smart Metering would be an asset.
  • Ability to work from engineering prints (civil and electrical design drawings), sketches, technical manuals, specifications and reports.
  • Good understanding of electrical fundamentals, distribution system configuration, distribution system equipment and facilities.
  • Must have excellent analytical skills and problem solving ability along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Operate company vehicles as required.
  • Adhere to the policies and legislation, which relate to the safe construction, operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
  • Must be have a valid unsuspended class “G” driver’s license at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions and recommend ways of improving the safety of the work environment.
