Project Engineer

Westario Power Inc. requires a Project Engineer who will be responsible to the VP of Engineering and Operations. This role administers a diverse range of projects relating to the design and management of infrastructure assets. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination and management of projects including quality control, procurement, planning, construction management and commissioning. S/he ensures that activities are aligned with corporate policies, applicable standards and regulations.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

System Design

-      Prepare estimates, work order requests, drawings and layouts for work to be undertaken in compliance with company and industry standards.

-      Assist in the planning and arrangement for extensions and betterments to the distribution system.

-      Coordinate and cooperate with Line Supervisors to achieve the safe, efficient, timely and cost effective supply of reliable electrical energy to customers.

-      Coordinate with customers, engineers, developers, road authorities as necessary.

Development Coordination

-      Coordinate internal resources to ensure appropriate infrastructure work is completed based on project needs and communication is provided to relevant stakeholders.

-      Assist customers in meeting their need for electrical distribution facilities through liaison and coordination with developers, consultants, contractors and other customers,   ensuring that customers are apprised of servicing policy and administrative requirements.

-      Coordinate work order openings, track status and compliance with developers, customers and contractors.

-      Prepare responses to inquires regarding new development submitted by government authorities providing information on servicing requirements, and the appropriate Company policy pertaining to site plan, subdivision plan and zoning applications.

Compliance Testing

-      Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.

-      Review project instructions and blueprints to verify test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions.

-      Analyze indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications.

­-      Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.

Safety

-      Observe all Corporate safety standards.

-      Report unsafe conditions.

-      Recommend ways of improving the safety of the work environment.

-      Ensure work practices are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any other applicable legislation.

 

 

The successful candidate will possess;

Education and/or Experience

-     Professional Engineering Degree

-     Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)

-     7-10 years’ experience with project planning, project management and project construction preferably within the utility sector (electrical)

-     Class G drivers’ licence

 

Information Technology Skills

 

-     Thorough knowledge of the Job Costing System(s)

-      Thorough knowledge of the Company’s CAD/GIS systems

-      General knowledge of Microsoft Word.

-      General knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

-      General knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

 

-     Civil Engineering Diploma or related discipline

-     Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)

-     9-10 years’ experience with project planning, project management and project construction preferably within the utility sector (electrical)

-     Class G drivers’ licence
