The Town of Tillsonburg is a progressive municipality on the leading edge of technology nestled in the heart of beautiful Southern Ontario. The Town is seeking a dynamic customer service oriented professional team player. 

Reporting to the Manager of Hydro Operations & Distribution, thenJourneyperson/Linesperson will be primarily responsible for supplying and maintaining hydro electricity to the residents of the Town of Tillsonburg, and ensuring that these duties and responsibilities are carried out in a safe manner using due diligence, and complying with the IHSA..

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Power line technician certificate.
  • Class D driver's licence with Z endorsement.
  • UPC Certified.
  • Current CPR/First Aid and WHMIS certificates.
  • Two (2) years mechanical diagnostic and repair experience.
  • Ability to work in emergency and stressful situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn very quickly in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work safely individually or within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards & safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of IHSA rules and regulations.
  • Current knowledge of pole top/bucket rescue, safe work practice, chainsaw safety, work area protection, Book "7", USF standards.
  • Excellent customer service skills. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • ESA audits.
  • Erect poles, towers and structures for power lines; install conductors and associated apparatus.
  • Perform maintenance of hydro service; trouble shoot and restore electrical power during emergencies to all customers.
  • Install, operate and maintain line apparatus such as transformers, reclosures, sectionalizers, switches, substations, etc.
  • Perform approved live line work using line tools, rubber gloves and other techniques on all voltages.
  • Install various types of metering equipment.
  • Installation and maintenance of underground cables.
  • Install, maintain and repair street lighting, sentinel lighting, communication and telemetering, traffic controls etc. as required.
  • Preparation & termination of underground splices & terminations.
  • Underground hydro cable locating.
  • Operation & maintenance of transformer sub-stations.
  • Safe operation and maintenance of utility related vehicles and equipment.
  • Liaison with other LDC's under UPC with shared equipment and responsibility.
  • Responds to after-hours emergency calls.
  • Aware of safe work practices relating to job responsibilities and have basic understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act as it relates to the work environment.
  • Working in extreme weather conditions, exposed to heat, rain, ice, cold, etc.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures for the Town.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Trained and skilled in tree trimming & removal.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures for the Town.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Aware of safe work practices relating to job responsibilities and have basic understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act as it relates to the work environment. 

This position offers a comprehensive benefit package including Health, Dental, Life and AD&D and OMERS. The salary range for the position is $24.69 - $41.15 per hour, as determined as per the collective agreement.
