APPRENTICE POWERLINE TECHNICIAN

Oshawa Power maintains 1000 km of overhead and underground distribution lines within a 150 km2 service territory, operated at 44 and 13.8 kV, supplied by 9 distribution and 3 transmission substations. Qualifications:

  • Diploma from Powerline Technician program or relevant post-secondary education.
  • Possess (or be willing to obtain) a valid DZ or AZ license with a clean abstract.
  • Must be in good health, and physically fit for year-round outdoor line work, in all elements, in confined spaces and at various heights. Will be required to pass a medical examination.
  • Commitment to safety, customer service, teamwork, respect in the workplace and continued improvement of processes and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable and competent with IHSA’s EUS Safety Rules, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Reg. 22/04 Electrical Distribution Safety, OTM Book 7 Temporary Conditions, Utility Work Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid and all other applicable legislation.
  • Competent in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the overhead and underground electrical distribution system.
  • Ability to read and interpret distribution system construction drawings and supporting documents.
  • Must have a good safety record, demonstrated safe work habits, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and safely in a team setting and follow instructions by peers.
  • Must have good communication skills both orally and written, including ability to maintain good logs and other records.
  • Basic computer knowledge and data input skills.
  • Must be available to perform regular stand-by and emergency call-outs and have the ability to reach the Company’s premises within twenty minutes.
