ENWIN Utilities Ltd. is currently accepting applications for the position of:

Journeyperson or Apprentice Hydro Meter Technologist

(Max. $38.58/hour – Fully Qualified)

Reporting to the Supervisor, Meter Shop (Hydro), the successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the Supervisor in fulfilling ENWIN’s Meter Shop Service Provider obligations as set out by the Independent Electrical Systems Operators (IESO) which include designing, installing/removing, maintaining, commissioning/decommissioning, testing, and registering/de-registering wholesale meter installation. The duties include but are not limited to: performing all duties of the Hydro Meter Technician inside the shop and in the field which include investigating problems associated with meters, power factors, high/low voltage complaints, and communication errors; installation of voltage monitoring equipment; installing and remove current and potential transformers; wiring of back plates; analysing and verifying metering installations; and installing wholesale primary metering equipment; participating in internal audits by ENWIN Utilities Ltd., and external audits conducted by Measurement Canada, International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and Independent Electrical Systems Operators (IESO); assisting in maintaining and in the development of the meter shop operations by monitoring inventory levels, creating and updating all work procedures to reflect changing certifications, practices and technology; assisting in the development and planning with regards to ENWIN’s meter reverification requirements as per Measurement Canada; monitoring Measurement Canada Laws and requirements, IESO market rules and manuals, Ontario Energy Board (OEB) Distribution System Code, ENWIN conditions of service & metering requirements to remain in compliance. 

Hours of work will be 7:30 am – 3:30 pm. 

The successful applicant must possess the following qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate of a three (3) year Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology/Technologist program from a recognized Community College with a minimum of one (1) year experience as a Journeyperson Meter Technician or;
  • Must be a graduate of a three (3) year Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology/Technologist program from recognized Community College and an Apprentice Meter Technician or;
  • Must be a graduate of a three (3) year Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology/Technologist program from a recognized Community College.
  • Successful completion of an ENWIN Electrical Theory Exam with a grade of 70% or greater.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes: heavy lifting, stretching and pulling, climbing to work at heights and/or work in confined spaces in proximity to high voltage in extreme weather conditions, year-round.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience providing good customer service in a variety of circumstances which may occasionally be challenging.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team providing leadership to others.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel and software applications applicable with meter programming and report writing.
  • Valid Class “G” Ontario’s Driver’s Licence. 

The Apprentice Hydro Meter Technologist position involves successful completion of an 8,000-hour apprenticeship program. This program is comprised of on-the-job training and completion of each level of the Hydro Meter Technologist Apprenticeship Training program. Duties will become progressively greater with each phase of practical experience and formal training. Progression within the classification will depend on satisfactory performance on the job, fulfilling the objectives of the apprenticeship and successful completion of the Meter Technician Training program delivered via MEARIE. The incumbent will be assigned to work with various Journeyperson throughout the apprenticeship period and, with training, will be expected to work on and operate meters and metering equipment. 

As a prerequisite, it is a requirement to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Fully vaccinated means that you have received two doses of a two-dose vaccine or have received one dose of a one-dose vaccine, and at least fourteen days have elapsed since receiving the last dose.
