Powerline Technician

 

Bluewater Power Distribution Corporation is the founding member of the Bluewater Power Group of Companies, headquartered in Sarnia Ontario. A progressive local distribution company, Bluewater Power distributes power to over 35,000 customers in six Sarnia-Lambton communities. The Bluewater Power Group of Companies also includes the following independent market driven private Corporations: Electek Power Services Inc., Bluewater Power Services Corporation, Bluewater Power Renewable Energy Inc., and Bluewater Regional Networks Inc. 

This is a permanent, full-time, union position. 

Job Duties:

  • Builds and maintains all aspects of Bluewater Power’s distribution electrical network.
  • Build, maintain, troubleshoot and repair lines, poles and other equipment, such as transformers, regulators, insulators, meters and substation facilities.
  • Capable of working long hours under difficult conditions to restore power to customers.
  • Work with aerial lifts (“bucket trucks”), radial boom derricks, trench diggers, large trucks and trailers.
  • Work with high-voltage electrical power, in all kinds of terrain and at heights up to 35 metres. 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of the Powerline Technician Program from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Enrolled in the MEARIE or IHSA Journeyman Powerline Technician Certification Program and is working towards obtaining certification or have an Interprovincial Red Seal Certification
  • Experience in the electrical field or completion of electrical courses would be an asset.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a valid “AZ” Ontario driver’s license.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes heavy lifting, stretching and pulling, climbing, working at heights and working in extreme weather conditions, year round. Applicant may be required to pass a medical examination.
  • Must be willing and available (once fully qualified) to perform regular stand by duty and emergency call-outs as needed.
  • Must reside within required residency restrictions within a specified period of time.
  • Willingness and ability to understand and abide by all Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Must have an excellent safety record and continually demonstrate safe working habits and mechanical aptitude
  • Effective communication skills to successfully interact with customers and peers
  • Ability to work effectively and safely in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor and peers
  • Ability to use sound judgment, is flexible and responsible and able to demonstrate focus and attention to detail
  • Occasional travel may be required.
