Electrical Safety Authority

Location: Mississauga, ON

Through its diverse workforce of 500+ employees, the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) has a clear mandate from the Ontario government. ESA regulates and promotes safety in Ontario. Everything ESA does aims to improve electrical safety for the public.

ESA’s vision is an Ontario where people can live, work and play safe from electrical harm. Its mission is to improve electrical safety for the well-being of the people of Ontario. Its mandate is to promote and undertake activities that enhance public electrical safety including training, inspection, authorization, investigation, registration, enforcement, audit, and other regulatory and non-regulatory public electric safety quality assurance services.

A not-for-profit organization, ESA operates according to a set of principles designed to ensure an effective balance between the twin goals of protecting the public interest while supporting private sector competitiveness. ESA is accountable to the public through the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services. ESA operates as a Delegated Administrative Authority under the Electricity Act 1998 with an Administrative Agreement with the Ministry. To learn more about ESA, please visit https://esasafe.com/

The Role of President & CEO

A search for ESA’s next President & CEO is now being undertaken due to the upcoming retirement of ESA’s current CEO. Reporting to an 11-member Board of Directors representing both industry and non-industry interests, the new President & CEO will lead a highly engaged team dedicated to public safety, supported by a strong group of stakeholders and community and government partners.

As a well-qualified candidate, you possess the breadth of skills and knowledge to inspire and lead a talented, engaged and service-oriented team that is aligned with ESA Values: Safety. You capably oversee company operations to ensure operating efficiency, financial viability, service quality and effective management of resources and regulatory authorities.

Experience in an organization that relates in a meaningful way to the work of the ESA would be valued, whether as a regulator or a regulated company, in a Crown Agency or a Delegated Administrative Authority, with an electricity or energy company, in government or in a contracting company or manufacturer with a well-known focus on safety.
