WHAT YOU'LL DO

Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering, Stations & Metering, this position is responsible for supervision, direction, and administration of the design, coordination of construction of the overhead and underground electrical distribution system as well as customer connections.  This position also oversees engineering analysis and information systems, such as GIS and Asset Management, contributes to development and execution of WNH Asset Management strategy in order to meet WNH objectives and customer requirements.  Major duties include:

  • Develop long-term distribution system plans and annual capital and operating work plans in the overhead, underground, services, GIS and asset management program areas.
  • Prepare and monitor the departmental operating and capital budgets and ensure that the department operates within the approved budget.
  • Mentor, manage, supervise and support resources and performance. Prepare and deliver performance reviews, create training and development plans, facilitate advancement and rotation plans.
  • Develop plans, establish direction, specifications, standards, KPI’s, procedures and support systems for work execution within the Distribution Engineering department to improve efficiency and deliver value to all areas of the organization in accordance with the corporate vision, mission, and goals.
  • Review and approve drawings, engineering studies and technical reports. Provide backup to Engineering Supervisors during absences including reviewing and professionally sealing engineering designs, scheduling and tracking individual work projects, managing contractors, issuing tenders and providing technical guidance to staff.
  • Interact with stakeholders to communicate progress, resolve issues, improve work execution processes, ensure regulatory compliance and safeguard corporation interests. 
  • Participate in developing Asset Management Strategy and supporting plans, preparation of documents and reports for rate filings.
  • Participate in industry working groups as appropriate.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Licenced Professional Engineer (P.Eng or L.E.L holder)
  • Knowledge of OEB codes, ESA Distribution Safety Regulations, and regulations pertaining to distribution systems (CSA, ANSI, IESO, UWPC, utility design standards and Conditions of Service)
  • Knowledge of USF Standards considered a major asset
  • Knowledge of the contents and administration of the collective agreement, Employment Standards Act and the Electricity Act
  • 8 plus years progressive experience in an electrical utility
