Entegrus requires an Apprentice Metering Technologist for our St. Thomas location.  Reporting to the Manager of Stations, Metering & Facilities, this position is responsible for installing, maintaining, upgrading, verifying and removing single-phase and poly-phase electrical meters for residential, commercial and industrial customers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, maintain, upgrade, verify and remove all types of electrical meters;
  • Analyze AMI data to ensure meter communication and data acquisition
  • Conduct reverification programs for the metering recertification process;
  • Ensure compliance with Measurement Canada and IESO requirements for wholesale and retail meters;
  • Install specialized electrical instruments via phone lines, cell, radio frequency and computer software;
  • Respond and troubleshoot customer service calls;
  • Consult with contractors/electricians on Company service requirements;
  • Conduct locates for underground cable faults and test high voltage cables;
  • Repair testing equipment used by meter and line staff;
  • Install power quality monitoring equipment on Entegrus and customer electrical equipment and analyze results
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Completion of a two year electrical technology program or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum one year of job related experience in metering, electrical or a related field.
  • Knowledge: Must possess an understanding of the fundamentals of revenue metering, electrical technology, meter testing equipment and related software.
  • Skills: Must have strong organizational skills, including records management and attention to detail.  Must have demonstrable written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess mechanical skills and the ability to work alone and in a team environment.
  • Other: Must have a good understanding of the electrical distribution business and have the technical experience to gauge and appreciate project scope and scale.  Must possess a valid Class G driver’s licence and an acceptable driver’s abstract.  Must be able and willing to perform periodic after-hours work as needed.  Must be physically able and willing to perform all tasks associated with work in outdoor elements in a year round outdoor environment.  

The successful applicant will be a self-motivated individual with the demonstrated ability to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, the Electrical Utilities Safety Rulebook and company policies/procedures.    

This position is a full-time union position based on the IBEW Collective Agreement.  Current hours of work are from 7:30am – 3:30pm, with a 20 minute paid lunch, Monday-Friday.  All interested candidates should send their resume to:
