POWERLINE SUPERVISOR

 

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Burlington Hydro is currently seeking a Powerline Supervisor. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Powerline Supervisor is accountable for the day-to-day organization of the work force in the overhead and underground departments, to ensure the work is carried out in a safe and timely fashion.  This position is responsible for providing front line leadership and direction towards the execution of Burlington Hydro’s construction and maintenance program.  This position liaises with internal departments as required to ensure departmental objectives are met. 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Plan, organize, schedule, assign and supervise employee and contractor activities engaged in installation, repair and maintenance of the power systems while ensuring work is being performed to Burlington Hydro expectations
  • Provide safety leadership ensuring safe, efficient, and timely completion of all required tasks in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, and BHI Policies & Procedures; enforced as required
  • Ensure positive labour relations through proper administration of the Collective Agreement and company policies
  • Provide direction, including establishing goals and training requirements, performance evaluations, and coaching
  • In conjunction with other supervisors, ensure completion of all work, progress, vehicle, equipment, and employee reports and/or records as required
  • Physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions, comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

  • Graduate of a related Technical Community College program, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of eight years Journeyperson Powerline Technician experience with certification, including successful completion of the MEARIE (or equivalent) Powerline Technician Training Program
  • 5 years leadership experience as a Powerline Technician Supervisor preferred
  • Valid Ontario Class AZ driver's license with a clean abstract and excellent driving record – and able to maintain same

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL  

  • Willingness and ability to lead by example to maintain and strengthen trust and confidence in Burlington Hydro
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, company policies, Utility Work Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid, and all other applicable legislation
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities with demonstrated excellent communication and inter-personal skills to interact with all employee levels and the general public
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs
  • Willingness to embrace new technology that contributes to productivity and efficiency
  • Willingness and ability to work under emergency and on-call situations
  • Proven excellent safety and attendance record
