POSITION SUMMARY The Supervisor Metering and Protection & Control will oversee and ensure the safe and accurate

installation, maintenance and calibration of all organizational electricity meters and related equipment as well as protection and control work carried out by the department. 

As a member of the Leadership Team (LT) the incumbent actively supports a ‘whole of organization’ approach by putting sufficient focus on: predicting & responding to customer needs; building an engaged employee culture; and, continually seeking better solutions through productivity, technology & innovation. 

The Supervisor Metering and Protection & Control will assign tasks, supervise activities of employees and contractors and ensure operations are carried out in accordance with acceptable standards and in a timely, safe and efficient manner. 

KEY DUTIES

  1. Manage the quality of work, maintain work schedules, and ensure that employees are working in a safe manner.
  2. Ensure metering equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and replaced.
  3. Manage metering data points within the system and analyze data to ensure accuracy.
  4. Manage meter replacement projects
  5. Work with Supply Chain to ensure forecasted requirements are provided in a timely manner to support Lead times.
  6. Prepare annual operating budget and capital plan for the Metering Department.
  7. Prepare for annual ESA audit to evaluate and ensure compliance.
  8. Manage department resources, employee performance and ensure team members receive the appropriate training required for their roles.
  9. Train the team on new processes, software, equipment, and metering advancements as they are implemented.
  10. Conduct field visits to ensure that work is completed in compliance with regulations, codes, standards, contracts, and the construction process.
  11. Complete job reviews to determine metering requirements for new services, generators, and service upgrades.
  12. Analyze and close out jobs as they are completed.
  13. Work with stakeholders to ensure asset inventory is accurate and supports upcoming projects.
  14. Manage Joint Use on behalf of the organization including agreements, invoicing, correspondence, and compliance requirements.
  15. Provide information to various stakeholders regarding easements and ensure payment is collected.
  16. Conduct field visits and provide feedback to customers with regard to encroachment requests.
  17. Lead departmental safety programs and initiatives.
  18. Support other duties as required. 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Intermediate computer and MS Office skills
  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions, plan and organize projects and assume accountability for performance
  • Ability to effectively direct, motivate and mentor staff, deal with stakeholders in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with various stakeholders both internal and external 

KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced knowledge of electricity metering specifications and regulations, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Measurement Canada Electricity and Gas Act rules and regulations and Accreditation standards.
  • Experience working with IESO, OEB and ESA regulations.
  • Working knowledge of the utility work protection code
  • Advanced knowledge and experience working in a unionized workplace, interpreting, and consistently applying the provisions of a Collective Agreement
  • Intermediate knowledge of station related power, control, and communications equipment
  • Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individuals, the organization, and operational requirements
  • Intermediate understanding of different management techniques and, problem solving techniques
  • Working knowledge of analog, digital and cellular communications. 

EDUCATION

  • Journeyperson Meter Technician or Electrical Engineering Technician Diploma
  • 5-7 years’ experience as a Meter Technician or Electrical Engineering Technician
  • 3-5 years previous supervisory or leadership experience
