First Nation leadership owners of Wataynikaneyap established the Guiding Principles, endorsed by its partners, that set out expectations for the Company’s development, including respect for the land and First Nation way of life.
Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of FortisOntario Inc., acts as the Project Manager of Wataynikaneyap Power LP (“Wataynikaneyap Power”). Wataynikaneyap Power is a licensed transmission entity, majority-owned by a partnership of 24 First Nation communities in partnership with Fortis Inc. and other private investors. The partnership is an unprecedented undertaking and has constructed 1,800 kilometres of 230 kV, 115 kV, and 44 kV transmission lines and over 22 substations in northwestern Ontario. Located near Thunder Bay in our Fort William First Nation, ON office, Wataynikaneyap Power is currently recruiting for a talented:
Respect for the Land and the Environment is the utmost importance and is reflected in the projects Guiding Principles. This position will report to the Director, Operations and Engineering, Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc. The Manager, Environmental will be responsible for ensuring the company has strong stewardship of the Environment in all its work activities that interact or have the potential to impact the land or the environment. In doing so, the position will also develop and maintain an enhanced Environmental Management System that reflects Wataynikaneyap Power’s Guiding Principles and Indigenous perspectives on environmental and land stewardship obtained through regular engagement, as well as understanding its legislated requirements and industry practices. This role is also responsible for overseeing work programs related to post-construction Environmental Assessment and Endangered Species Act requirements and overseeing employees, affiliates and contractors as required. The incumbent must ensure all work assigned is performed efficiently, while demonstrating a personal commitment to Guiding Principles, Environment, Land, and Safety.
