3rd Year- Journeyperson Technician

 

LUSI is currently searching for a highly motivated, results-oriented individual for the position of 3rd Year- Apprencite Linesperson. Under the general direction of the Manager of Electric Distribution, this position will be responsible to perform any work required to construct, repair or maintain our distribution system. In addition, the candidate will be responsible to complete inspections as required, emergency repairs, respond to customer complaints and attend to unplanned outages. The candidate must be capable of identifying workplace hazards and be able to utilize all reasonable barriers to ensure safe work performance. When deemed to meet the requirements, the incumbent will have obligations to perform regular on-call duties as assigned. 

Overall Responsibilities: 

  • In a safe and efficient manner, perform all construction and maintenance work related to overhead and underground power distribution systems operating at voltage levels up to including 44 KV
  • Operate all machinery, equipment and tools used in performance of the work in a safe and efficient manner. This includes but is not limited to various aerial devices, radial boom derricks, tension machines, forklift, a variety of power tools, chain saws, as well as a variety of hand tools.
  • Work in compliance with all safe work practices, rules and regulations as set out by LUSI, MO, ESA, IHSA, as well as other safety rules and regulations.
  • Be an active and contributing member of a team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or recognized equivalent.
  • Certified as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician with Red Seal Certificate through an industry-recognized training program or registered as a Level 3 Apprentice in the Powerline Trades Technician program with the Ontario Colleges and Apprenticeships branch (having attained a minimum of 4000 hours working in the trade) with the expectation to complete formal training under an industry-standard Powerline Technician Training Program and attain 8000 hours working in the trade to become fully qualified.
  • Physically fit to perform position responsibilities and ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Must be able to fulfill ‘on-call’ responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to proficiently operate all equipment associated with the trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to work from electronic work orders, specifications, standards, and instructions, able to interpret prints, sketches and diagrams.
  • Demonstrated ability to proficiently operate laptop computers and computer-based tools and technology.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with coworkers and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company.
  • Possess good knowledge of industry regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, the Utility Work Protection Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and related Construction and Industrial Regulations Requires current Standard First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS training.
  • Requires a valid Ontario Driver’s License with “DZ” designation and an excellent driving record
  • Strong understanding of ESA rules and regulations as applicable to the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
  • Must reside within 65 km of 25 Ewart Street, Cobourg or be able to relocate within 6 months to accommodate an ideal response time of 40 minutes.

Wage: 

As this is a union position salary range is $34.66 – $43.32 (dependent on qualifications) per hour commensurate with the LUSI’s Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 25.  LUSI offers a rewarding working environment, benefits package, pension plan and opportunities for development.
