About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Supply Chain, the incumbent will support and assist the department with tactical matters and be responsible for performing the complete purchasing function (and managing the supply chain within) of goods and services including capital purchases and projects as directed.  The incumbent will supply inventory parts, non-inventory, services and consulting services, as requested by user departments and to maintain accurate records of these transactions and provide office support for the purchasing function by preparing purchase orders; and preparing correspondence for the purpose of purchasing inventory, supplies, equipment, or services.

 

What you will do

  • Purchase all non-inventory, service, and consulting services;
  • Conduct quotations and RFPs on behalf of company;
  • Assist the Inventory & Procurement Clerk with the purchase of materials for engineering & distribution specifications at the best price, consistent with scheduling of capital work orders, maintenance stock, delivery availability, and purchasing costs. Maintain vendor records and price changes;
  • Assist the Manager, Supply Chain with contract services and job planning as required;
  • Participate in cycle counts and annual inventory of stock;
  • Recommend and assist with changes to computer-generated reports;
  • Assist Stockkeeper or Inventory & Procurement Clerk with the transfer of product via forklift and/or hand transfer;
  • Process received goods including: unloading, verification, transporting (via forklift), shelving, disposal of packaging. Must be able to lift 40 lbs;
  • Responsible for material management at pole yard;
  • Check supplier’s invoices so they agree with terms of the purchase order;
  • Assist the Purchasing Manager in managing the recycling programs including reel returns, skid returns, metal returns, and transformer returns and arrange for the disposal of obsolete and scrap materials;
  • Track and schedule testing for rubber gloves, rubber blankets, first aid kits, fire extinguishers and fire alarms;
  • Issues safety equipment and materials and WHMIS information as specified by the Manager, Health & Safety;
  • Coordinate, direct, and motivate staff during the Manager’s absence;
  • Assist Technical Services & Engineering personnel – review and evaluate current specifications or suggested changes from vendors;
  • Assist with general maintenance of the Stores Warehouse;
  • Other duties as assigned;

 

What you have to offer

  • A minimum of Five (5) years purchasing and/or supply chain experience; or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience;
  • Post-secondary education specializing in Purchasing and Materials/Supply Chain Management;
  • Completion of at least one of the following: NISCL National Institute of Supply Chain Leaders (NISCL-CSCMP), the APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), the Institute for Public Procurement (NIGP) and/or the Ontario Buyers Association (C.P.P.B.) designation(s);
  • Excellent communications skills including verbal, phone, and computer;
  • Collaborate well with other individuals/departments;
  • Highly organized individual who is able to coordinate several projects at the same time;
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment, theories, and the ability to evaluate relevant data;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Proven ability to execute and drive results;
