Senior Accounting Clerk

Reporting into the Accounting Supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining the work order system, invoice preparation and related general accounting entries; the reconciliation of daily bank transactions; maintenance of accounts receivable sub-ledgers and related general ledger accounts; and analysis of ledger accounts, including assisting in the preparation of financial statements and budgets. 

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and use of corporate software (JD Edwards preferred)
  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting principles
  • Intermediate mathematical skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and inter-personal skills are required
  • Appropriate knowledge of industry regulations, privacy regulations, and company polices to respond to customer inquiries

Experience/Education     

  • Minimum three (3) years of accounting experience
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, business or related discipline

Major (Primary) Responsibilities

  • Review Capital Work in Progress and ensure the appropriate allocation and distribution of costs
  • Handle enquiries and resolve issues related to cost details on work order files
  • Prepare adjusting and closing journal entries for posting to the General Ledger
  • Prepare invoices, apply payments, reconcile and balance miscellaneous accounts receivable to general ledger
  • Prepare and review the miscellaneous accounts receivable aging report and follow up on accounts to ensure timely collections
  • Record receipt of payments, assist Customer Service department with paperwork
  • Maintain and reconcile various subsidiary ledgers and journals
  • Reconcile general ledger bank accounts to related bank statements
  • Assist in the preparation of the financial statements, statistical, and other financial reports
  • Assist in the analysis of ledger accounts for budgets and year-end
  • Maintain accounting records and files in accordance with the company’s record retention policy
  • Train non-finance team on entry/setup/maintenance process for Work Orders and Jobs 
  • Maintain and promote a safe and healthy work environment, and comply with corporate safety policies as well as applicable codes, such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Electrical Utility Safety Rules
  • Assist in other accounting functions and related clerical tasks
  • Back up Accounting Clerk – Accounts Payable position
