The electricity industry is undergoing transformational change as the world strives to decarbonize. POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the VP, Business Development, the Utility Services Manager is tasked with developing a diversified utility service business while prioritizing safety, regulatory compliance, and financial objectives. They are a builder who drives process improvements, oversee day-to-day operations, and cultivate a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Acting as a liaison to senior management, they ensure alignment with strategic goals and contribute to the formulation of annual business objectives. With a focus on operational excellence and growth, they provide leadership, strategic insights, and oversight across the new business operation while also performing utility services as required.

 

KEY DUTIES

To excel in this position, the incumbent must prioritize the following:

  • Safety Stewardship: Ensuring the implementation of rigorous safety protocols, fostering a culture of safety awareness, and safeguarding the well-being of employees, the public, and utility infrastructure.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain a sharp focus on customer satisfaction by implementing seamless service delivery processes and fostering a culture of ongoing improvement.
  • In-Field Guidance and Operations: Execute utility operations as necessary to maintain service reliability, meet customer demands, and guide company best practices.
  • Financial Discipline: Overseeing budgeting and forecasting, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring fiscal accountability to drive sustainable growth and profitability.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Build, develop and expand the utility service business through strategic planning, innovative solutions, and effective execution of growth initiatives.
  • Organizational Capability: Enhance organizational strength by implementing performance improvement systems and fostering talent development initiatives.
  • Profitable Growth: Execute business development strategies diligently and pursue new opportunities with an entrepreneurial spirit, ensuring sustainable and profitable growth.
  • Communication and Industry Engagement: Effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, participate in industry events, and fulfill additional responsibilities as necessary to support organizational objectives.
  • Other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced knowledge and technical understanding of hydro utility locate environment and industry standards.
  • 5 plus years experience in the locate industry.
  • DPT certification is preferred.
  • Private locates, pole inspections, depth of cover, and GPR experience a benefit.
  • 5+ years as a successful leader
  • Strong health, safety and environmental mindset. Values-based, passionate individual for whom “making a contribution” matters.
  • Start-up and Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Experience working with Senior Management Teams to drive desired outcomes.
  • Appreciation and knowledge of the power sector and regulatory frameworks.
  • Understanding of budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify new industry opportunities.
  • Excellent organizational, strategic, planning, and implementation skills.
  • High level of critical and logical problem solving; uses analysis and reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, facts, and implementing unique solutions.
  • Well-defined sense of diplomacy, including conflict resolution and people management skills.
  • Advanced capability to maintain focus during stressful situations, efficiently multi-task, and derive solutions under pressure.
  • Strong collaboration, networking, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical analysis software.
  • Intermediate knowledge of OHSA, electrical utility construction standards, and distribution system operations.
