UTILITY ARBORIST

 

Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro Inc. is a Municipal Electric Distribution Company within the City of Kitchener and the Township of Wilmot, with a total service area of 409 square kilometres.  Our staff of approximately 175 serves over 92,000 customers with a peak load of approximately 400 MVA.

 

The Utility Arborist is responsible for removing, trimming and/or controlling of trees, branches and brush under and around energized power distribution lines with or without the aid or aerial devices to ensure public safety and minimize service disruptions.  You will also be responsible for the safe operation of equipment including trucks with trailers, aerial devices, chippers, chain saws and other motorized devices.

 

Applications will be considered from candidates who meet the following minimum qualifications:

 

  • The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong people skills, a positive attitude, excellent work ethic and a solid commitment to safety
  • Grade 12 Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a Journeyman Utility Arborist holding a Certificate of Qualification issued by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (Trade Code 444B)
  • Requires a valid Class ‘DZ’ driver’s license
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must demonstrate an ability to interpret drawings, sketches and diagrams and to work from verbal and written instructions, specifications and standards.
  • Requires certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR
  • Must have excellent operational skills with the tools and equipment used in the job.
  • A working knowledge of industry regulations, the ESA Distribution Safety Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, the Work Protection Code, the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related Construction and Industrial Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform the duties of the job including manual labour, climbing trees and working at heights.
  • The successful candidate will be required to be available for emergency call-outs.
