Health & Safety / People  Officer

 

Orillia Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) has a challenging and unique opportunity for a dynamic, highly motivated, and multi-functional individual to manage and oversee the Health & Safety, People, and Administrative responsibilities of the business. OPGC owns and operates six waterpower generating stations and seven solar generation facilities. OPGC employs a talented and dedicated team of 18 staff. Reporting to the President and CEO, this position is a multi-faceted opportunity for the right candidate who will focus on the health, safety and wellness of the team. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all employment laws, including ESA, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Common law and others
  • Responsible for OPGC’s Health, Safety and Wellness programs
  • Oversee all safety training programs, ensuring compliance with all mandatory requirements
  • Recommend new programs, services, or changes to existing programs and / or policies to comply with changing guidelines, standards or legislation
  • Responsible for WSIB and attendance management
  • Responsible for the effective operation of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Provide regular Health & Safety reporting to senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the People function including, health & safety, recruitment, wellness, benefits, training, compensation, performance management and labour relations
  • Provide advice and feedback to leaders on all compliance matters regarding; collective agreement, policies and procedures, and all relevant regulatory legislation
  • Lead contact for office administration, ie; phones, copiers, building maintenance; and key and security control
  • Responsible for administrative supply and uniform program
  • Provide confidential support to the management team and Board of Directors
  • Recording Secretary for Board of Directors – confidentially and accurately record and prepare minutes of Board meetings
  • Preparation of presentations to the Board of Directors 

Education, Experience and Required Skills

  • Minimum 7 years Health and Safety leadership experience
  • Minimum 5 years management experience in all areas of the People function
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Human Resources, Office Administration, or equivalent
  • CHRP or CHRL a definite asset
  • Proven experience in labour relations and contract negotiations
  • Sound knowledge of employment laws and regulatory requirements
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed skills with Microsoft Office applications, with Word, Excel and PowerPoint knowledge and abilities
  • Experience as Board Secretary or minute taking would be an asset
  • Proven professional manner in carrying out all duties
  • Experience developing and presenting materials to senior management and Board level
  • Strategic, proactive, organized and priority/results focused
