Mapping Survey Technician

A graduate of a 3-year Technician/Technologist college program or equivalent, with Land Surveying and Electronic Total Station training, you are ready to become accountable for land surveying, surveying calculations, staking procedures, and the preparation and updating of clear, accurate mapping and drawing schematics using AutoCAD. Reporting to the Engineering Services Supervisor, you will operate an electronic total station surveying instrument with a reflecting prism and a GPS surveying instrument, to measure distances, angles and coordinates in the field. Mapping duties will include creating land parcel fabric from easement and other Land Registry plans and documents. You will search titles for property owners, easements and related documentation, prepare, update, customize and edit drawings per requested standards using AutoCAD and Autodesk Raster Design, maintain a Microsoft Access street light database and base map sets, and prepare daily written tailboard and traffic safety plans for fieldwork.  You will also be involved in some aspects of GIS, including facility inventory and field data collection.  Providing direction/training to summer students will also be among your duties.

Preferably, your ability to work with GPS and your relevant experience using AutoCAD, Autodesk Raster Design, AutoCAD Map, Word, Excel, and Access database applications are backed by 3 years in mapping and surveying within an electrical utility environment. You demonstrate a proficient mathematical aptitude, and hold a valid class G driver’s licence.
