Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. (NT Power) delivers power with pride to almost 50,000 customers within the Town of Newmarket, Town of Midland and Tay Township. Headquartered in Newmarket, Ontario, NT Power has an additional office in Midland, Ontario, which is approximately one hour north of Newmarket along the shores of Georgian Bay.  

We require a dynamic, highly motivated, and proactive Cashier/Collections Representative, working in a team environment reporting to the Customer Service Manager, at our head office in Newmarket. 

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Customer Service Manager, the duties will include receiving, posting, and depositing all payments made to the utility, updating customer accounts with necessary information relating to payment/credit activity and responsible for creating daily reports.  The incumbent will create weekly Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) files for the bank, and scan documents received for filing on the NT Power network as per the retention policy. In addition to your excellent financial administrative and clerical skills, experience working in the electricity sector while not mandatory to apply, is preferred. 

The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to manage priorities, complete a large volume of work to a high standard while meeting tight deadlines on an ongoing basis. We are looking for someone with superb organizational, priority setting, and multi-tasking skills; and able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and exercise good judgement in managing time and making decisions, while also knowing when to seek direction and/or support from the Customer Service Manager or other staff. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Payment Processing:
    • Process lockbox payments received in the banks,
    • Process payments made by mail and determine the total of cheques received, and stubs processed
    • Process post-dated cheques on NT Power systems.,
    • Prepare PAP files for the bank.
    • Process credit card payments from Paymentus on NT Power systems
  • Verify information on payments is accurate:
    • Notify Customer Service and / or the Finance team regarding incorrect customer information to ensure appropriate action is taken to resolve any errors.
    • If payment stubs are missing, obtain customer information from the CIS and prepare a payment receipt.
  • Answer incoming calls and direct to the appropriate personnel; provide support to Customer Service Representatives when required
  • Complete necessary updates to customer information
  • Obtain processing approvals from the Customer Service Manager where necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education equivalent to secondary school
  • Attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy and competent in numeracy skills
  • 1 to 2 years of successful related experience in a financial services role, preferably in the electricity or other regulated sector
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong customer service skills and telephone manner
  • Excellent time management, priority-setting and multi-tasking skills, with superb attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight, inflexible deadlines
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety, and high ethical and quality standards
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures related to safe work practices of NT Power
