ASSET MANAGEMENT SUPERVISOR

 

This position reports to the Manager of Asset & Project Management.  This role is accountable for: maintaining and updating the Distribution System Plan and documentation relevant to asset management and sustainment; continuity of department performance in supporting the corporate work achievement program; developing business cases for annual capital and maintenance programs; and the overall direction of the Asset Management department.  The role will lead the implementation of detailed system studies, asset performance analysis, and data analytics necessary to support investment decisions focused on minimizing the total cost of asset lifecycle ownership.

This role leads the company’s project management efforts to maximize the effectiveness of resource utilization in delivering the various work programs required by Hydro One Brampton. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be an Engineering Technologist certified with OACETT or registered with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or license, in good standing.  
    • P. Eng. designation would be an asset;
    • Project Management Professional designation would be an asset;
    • Previous Supervisory experience would be an asset;
  • Excellent knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution system design and construction and required permitting and approvals necessary to execute projects.
  • Minimum five (5) years distribution experience in a large urban utility.
  • Excellent knowledge of distribution system equipment duty, degradation and failure modes.
  • Must possess an excellent understanding of utility practices and asset management process related to physical asset management.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities: must be able to work with others and lead teams to solve problems using collaborative engagement; set staff goals and expectations and monitor progress; coach staff to achieve desired outcomes and reach their fullest potential; and manage personnel issues.
  • Skilled in engaging and maintaining communications among multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organizational and Project Management skills: management of multiple project assignments using scope, cost and schedule monitoring and control techniques, use of risk management and milestone identification to meet deadlines and work around as required. Generate procurements for multi-year requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to communicate effectively and prepare technical reports, budgets, business cases and variance analysis.
  • Knowledge of ESA Regulation 22/04, CSA Standards C22.3 No.7, C22.3 No.1, the OEB Distribution System Code and the application of same in relation to construction designs and asset management functions.
  • Strong desire to provide excellent customer service. 

DUTIES:

  • Accountable for the systems and processes that analyze asset management activities, system inspection and system sustainment practices. The role applies Hydro One Brampton’s guiding principles to maximize the value of distribution system assets through best utility practices in accordance with applicable regulations, codes and standards. This role is also accountable to develop Project Management capabilities to improve organizational effectiveness in managing the planning and execution of construction projects and programs.
  • Accountable for the production of high quality engineering designs that incorporate best utility practice in accordance with accepted HOBNI standards and all applicable laws, codes and regulations to maximize the earned value and minimize risk exposure to Hydro One Brampton Networks Inc.
  • Accountable to maintain and refresh Hydro One Brampton’s Distribution System Plan (DSP) to reflect current needs, conditions and drivers. Provide guidance and support to other departments in the preparation of business cases and reports required to update the DSP.
  • Prepare annual budgets, monitor and control costs to remain within budget.
  • Coordinate and provide project services to optimize and execute timely completion of projects for work achievement program relating to asset management and sustainment activities.
  • Maintain the Project Scheduling application to optimize resource utilization by providing effective scheduling of projects and procurements. Track monthly project performance indicators in dashboard or other formats and present updates to key stakeholders.
  • Enhance Hydro One Brampton’s Asset Management capabilities by improving existing equipment inspection programs, data collection methods and by developing new data storage architecture methods to support data analysis (analytics).
  • Provide support for and respond to requests for information in support of OEB cost of service rate applications.
  • Follow the continuous improvement model to manage the overall operation of the Asset Management and Sustainment department to be effective and efficient in performing the various department functions.
  • Lead and organize teams which may include internal and/or external representation to investigate new work methods, applications, processes, materials, equipment or procedures.
