HUMAN RESOURCES ADVISOR

 

Temporary, Full-Time, 40 Hours per week (up to June 2016)

Pay Rate Minimum:  $60,768.26

 

The Human Resources Advisor is responsible for supporting all key HR areas including recruitment and selection, employee relations, labour relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, policies and procedures and company objectives.  The Advisor is a flexible, confident individual who is able to advance organizational culture by modeling organizational values, promoting HR initiatives and demonstrating sound judgment. 

Responsibilities

  • Keep up to date on new and evolving employment legislation such as AODA, ESA, HR, disability management, identifying gaps and recommending actions items for compliance as required
  • Provide training as appropriate
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients including listening to understand different perspectives and needs, providing sound advice and coaching
  • Maintain integrity and professionalism while communicating and promoting HR initiatives
  • Coach and provide guidance to management on various issues including discipline, performance, labour and attendance matters
  • Respond to client requests, issues and enquiries with regards to interpreting policies and programs, collective agreement
  • Respond to employee driven requests regarding issues such as compensation and benefits
  • Provide collective agreement interpretation, seeking knowledge from others as required
  • Administer the grievance process
  • Coordinate and participate in labour relations meetings including communicating and monitoring action items
  • Compile various HR metrics, providing meaningful analysis including trends and recommendations for areas of focus and improvements
  • Provide quarterly summaries to clients and the broader corporation
  • Identify areas of focus and improvements
  • Overall coordination of recruitment and selection activities such as job postings, resume and candidate screening, interview coordination, reference checking, training 
  • Work closely with clients to create job descriptions and participate in the job evaluation process for unionized positions where required
  • Overall coordination of the performance management cycle including updating relevant document and reporting on the status of deliverables
  • Provide advice and coaching to management
  • HRMS/HRIS data maintenance
  • Proactively manage salary administration
  • Review processes and recommend efficiency improvements
  • Demonstrated interest/agility with software systems in general
  • Ability to create and modify HRMS/HRIS queries to produce a variety of reports and manipulation of data 

Education and Experience

  • A three-year diploma or degree in Human Resources (or equivalent) is required
  • Professional Human Resources designation must be obtained or in progress
  • 3-5 years of experience is required
  • Experience in an unionized environment is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a  strong customer focus
  • Ability to embrace change and deal effectively with competing demands in a dynamic work environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Experience using and manipulating data, producing reports
  • Experience with the administration of group benefits including employee self-service
  • Experience with a HRMS/HRIS system, PeopleSoft is considered an asset
