Enova Power Corp. is a local distribution utility that serves 157,000 residents and businesses in the City of Kitchener, the City of Waterloo, the Township of Wellesley, the Township of Wilmot and the Township of Woolwich. We are looking to hire two (2) Engineering Co-op students to perform a variety of tasks related to the Utility's Electrical Distribution System in our Engineering & Stations Department. The tasks assigned will include assisting Engineering Technologists in the design of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, preparing engineering drawings using AutoCAD and assisting GIS Department with record updates. Other work will depend on the student's academic qualifications, previous work experience as well as interest and aptitude demonstrated during the work term.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Technology program (Electrical or Energy Systems). Technician candidates will NOT be considered. Preference will be given to those applicants who have previous utility or industrial experience in power systems, civil construction and/or are considering a career in the Electrical Utility Industry. Applicants should be very computer literate, and have previous work experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Some tasks may involve driving a company vehicle, a valid Class G driver's license is required.

The current status of your driver’s license, i.e. Class G, Class G1, etc.
Number of school terms completed in the current program
Level of AutoCAD experience outside of school courses or projects (in an employment setting).

This position is for a four (4) month work term (Monday May 1, 2023 to Friday September 2, 2023) with a potential for extension up to one (1) year work term.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist Engineering personnel with the preparation, design, and record updates of underground and overhead distribution facilities.

PRIMARY ACTIVITIES AND REPRESENTATIVE MAJOR TASKS:

Assist with preparation and design of underground and overhead distribution systems, street lighting systems, and customer services in accordance with established standards
Produce drawings for the electrical distribution system from field data and designs supplied by others
Update record systems from as built drawings and field data
Assist with the preparation of cost estimates and material lists

REPRESENTATIVE MINOR TASKS:

Assist with customer inquiries
Other duties as required

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Must be enrolled in a College/University Engineering program
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to deal with fellow employees in a courteous manner
Physical ability to work in an office and outside environment
Some tasks require fieldwork and a valid Class G driver’s license to drive company vehicles
Proficient in use of AutoCAD, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel software

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:

Reports to the Engineering Supervisor
Work procedures are well defined and carried out under the direction of the Supervisor
The incumbent is expected to solve routine problems and assistance is readily available
