JOURNEYPERSON METER TECHNICIAN or METERING APPRENTICE

 

Oshawa PUC Networks Inc., a subsidiary of Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation, is the local distribution company serving more than 50,000 customers in the City of Oshawa, located 45 minutes east of Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario. 

Reporting to the Manager, Metering & Operations, this position is responsible for performing a variety of routine skilled and technical work in the maintenance, repair and installation of electric meters and associated equipment. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and timely completion of all required tasks in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, IHSA Electrical Utility Safety Rules, and Oshawa PUC Networks Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for assisting as required with the planning, coordination, operation and maintenance of all metering systems as per Measurement Canada, ESA, OEB, IESO and other legislative requirements.
  • Perform installation, removal and maintenance of all metering equipment and systems, including troubleshooting, cross phase and accuracy analysis.
  • Respond to and resolve customer complaints relating to metering, meter accuracy and power quality issues.
  • Maintain applicable documents and records as required.
  • Responsible for all associated administrative functions as required to be performed by this position.
  • Strong computer skills including basic office productivity software preferably, Microsoft Office applications (specifically Excel). 
  • Maintain and program new electronic smart metering hardware. Troubleshoot wired and wireless meter communication equipment.
  • Ensure completion and recording of daily tailboards, vehicle and equipment inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

To be considered for this position applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: 

  • Three-year Electrical Engineering Technologist, Energy Systems Technologist or an equivalent 3 year electrical diploma/degree in a related field. 
  • OACETT (C. Tech or C.E.T.) designation is preferred.
  • Journeyperson Metering Certificate that is accredited with MEARIE/EDA or a recognized equivalent is preferred.
  • Valid class G Ontario Driver’s License with a clean abstract.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all employee levels and the general public.
  • Strong computer skills including basic office productivity software preferably, Microsoft Office applications (specifically Excel).
  • Must be in good health, and physically fit for year-round outdoor work in all elements. Will be required to pass a medical examination.
  • Must have a high regard for personal and public safety and be committed to working diligently towards a safer workplace.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, maintain a positive attitude and contribute to on-going improvement of work processes and procedures.
