(“FortisOntario”) which is headquartered in Fort Erie and has operations in electricity transmission and distribution primarily located in Fort Erie, Port Colborne, Cornwall, Gananoque and the district of Algoma.  FortisOntario is the only investor-owned electric distribution utility in Ontario and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Inc. (“Fortis”). Fortis is the largest investor-owned distribution utility in Canada.  Algoma Power Inc. currently has an exciting and challenging opportunity working out of our Wawa Work Centre location for the position of:

 

LINE TRADE TECHNICIAN (JOURNEYPERSON POWERLINE TECHNICIAN)

 

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, or delegate, the Line Trade Technician will be responsible to perform work required to construct, repair and/or maintain the distribution system as well as patrols and inspections as required, emergency repairs, response to customer needs and attending unplanned outages. 

The Line Trade Technician will ensure all work assigned is performed efficiently and will have a high regard for health, safety and the environment; ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, policies, procedures and standards.  The candidate must be capable of identifying workplace hazards and be able to utilize all reasonable barriers to ensure safe work performance. 

The ideal candidate will have following qualifications:

  • Certified as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician (certified to work in Ontario) under an industry standard Powerline Training Program
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “A” or “D” Ontario Driver’s Licence with a Class “Z” endorsement and a clean driver’s abstract
  • Must be able to fulfill ‘on-call’ responsibilities if requested
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions
  • Excellent working knowledge of all applicable Provincial Safety Regulations, Provincial Environmental Regulations, IHSA Electrical and Utility Safety Rules and Safe Practice Guides
  • Demonstrate safe work practices
  • Current certification in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS
  • Ability to read and interpret documentation pertinent to the work (i.e. instructions, prints, drawings, sketches, operating diagrams, work protection documents, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers and industry partners
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is an asset
