We are presently inviting applications for the position of Vice President of Finance

As a member of the Executive Management Team, the VP of Finance, reporting to the President & CEO of Essex Power Corporation is responsible for the financial management and accounting of Essex Power Corporation and all its subsidiaries.  The VP of Finance advises the President & CEO on the financial implications of existing and proposed operating policies and procedures.  The VP of Finance will present key financial reports to the President & CEO, Executive Team, Board of Directors, Shareholders and other 3rd Parties as required.    The VP of Finance will assess and manage corporate risk using internal control processes that align with best practice principles outlined in industry standards such as Sarbanes-Oxley and bill 198. The VP of Finance will need to have a thorough and current knowledge of industry,  regulatory environment and electricity market principles and rules. 

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES: 

Develop, recommend and provide advice to the President & CEO on corporate financial goals and objectives, recommend policies necessary to achieve the desired results and having obtained approval, impartially apply said policies and/or regulations. 

Advise and recommend policy to the President & CEO in such areas as, but not limited to, the following: 

  • Rate schedules and financial arrangements

  • Annual budgets and related supporting documentation

  • Long-term financial projections, earnings forecasts and capital submissions

  • Determination of cost/benefit analysis, return on investment and other financial implications

  • Corporate long and short term financing requirements and

  • Investment strategies for surplus funds.

Direct and actively participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective management information and reporting system maintained on a responsibility basis, and provide justification for any variances from plan. 

Recommend to the President & CEO appropriate financial policies, procedures and other related matters with the purpose of enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the Corporation. 

Manage all financial procedures, policies or regulations adopted by the Board of Directors or set forth by regulation or legislation. 

Review and prepare budgets for Essex Power Corporation and subsidiary companies including capital works and maintenance expenses.  Review financial and statistical reporting to government agencies, departments and associations.  Maintain and meet date deadlines for completion of financial and statistical documents as required. 

Review monthly financial statements, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents.  Analyze monthly operating results in relations to budgets and reviews activity ratios, with the president and other supervisory personnel as required. 

Manage the regulatory affairs for the corporate group ensuring compliance of rate applications and other regulatory submissions to regulatory agencies including but not limited to the Ontario Energy Board, the Independent Electricity System Operator, the Electrical Safety Association etc. 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: 

The successful candidate will possess a professional accounting designation (C.A.). Other designations (C.P.A., C.M.A, and C.G.A.) will be considered based on proven experience. 

University/College degree in Commerce or Business Administration. 

Preferably five years or more experience at senior management level in the energy industry. 

Proven ability to support Canada/US operations through experience and knowledge of Canada/US accounting practices. 

Knowledge of the Ontario electricity industry and OEB regulatory process and procedures. 

Broad general knowledge of data processing methods, systems and procedures.  Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains system is an asset. 

Proven managerial skill sets to oversee and support a range of accounting and finance resources across multiple enterprises. 

Strong organizational, analytical and project leadership skills, with a creative approach to problem solving 

Ability to perform in a rapidly evolving, changing, high volume environment, managing multiple priorities with ability to meet deadlines 

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and business acumen to present to external stakeholders
