ELECTRICAL MAINTAINER

 

We have a vacancy in our Operations Division for an Electrical Maintainer.  

The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications: 

    • Demonstrated company values, in particular respect in the workplace, ethics and working safely.
    • Grade 12 education
    • Completed four year Substation Electrician apprenticeship program or Community college diploma in electrical/electronics technology with eligibility for MEARIE Sub-Station Electrician program certification
    • High regard for personal and public safety in a team setting
    • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude including “hands on” proficiency
    • Solid understanding of basic electric circuit theory.
    • Minimum of a valid Class ‘DZ’ driver’s license
    • Radial Boom Derrick license eligibility 
    • Ability to perform standby duties, including responding to emergency callouts within thirty minutes, upon request
    • Familiar with power transformers and other station electrical and mechanical equipment
    • Knowledge of electrical and other safety procedures when working on site
    • Proficient in inspection, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of electrical equipment
    • Understand, practice and reinforce IHSA Safety Rules, Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other applicable legislation
    • Understand and apply the Utility Work Protection Code as required
    • Knowledge of Ontario Electrical Safely Code
    • Knowledge of hazards and safe practices when using hydraulic lifting equipment
    • First Aid/CPR trained
    • Forklift/Skidsteer Operator Certificate 

The duties and responsibilities of this position include: 

    • Regularly inspect and troubleshoot issues with stations, building, underground, and manhole equipment,

    • Complete primary switching operations as directed by control room switching orders, including establishing safe work areas under the Utility Work Protection Code 

    • Repair transformers, capacitor banks, streetlight, and distribution equipment.

    • Work around primary voltages and within confined spaces

    • Maintain, calibrate and outsource as required small tools, electronic equipment, testing equipment and gas detectors.

    • Maintain building control system, including working with software vendors and the IT Department for all necessary troubleshooting and software or hardware maintenance and upgrades.

    • Maintenance and repair of Guelph Hydro buildings as required, including HVAC systems - change filters, lubricate motors and bearings.

    • Maintenance of building electrical systems.          

    • Other duties as assigned 

Apprentices or applicants with equivalent experience will be considered providing they have the ability to become journeypersons within a reasonable period of time.
