JOURNEYPERSON/LINEPERSON

 

and will consider a 3’rd or 4’th year Apprentice Linesperson

 

Rideau St. Lawrence is a local electric distribution company serving customers in South Dundas, Cardinal, Prescott and Westport.   Rideau St. Lawrence  has an immediate opening for a Power Lineperson. The successful candidate will join a team that is responsible for the day-to-day construction, operation and maintenance of the electrical distribution system, including overhead and underground of various voltages (up to and including 44kv).  The successful candidate will be required to perform weekly standby duty, emergency and planned overtime on a regular basis; therefore, must reside within 25 Km of the nearest service area boundary. Third or fourth year apprentices are also welcome to apply. 

Apprentice Applicants: Will work towards completion of the 4-Year Powerline Technical apprenticeship program, satisfying the certification requirements both in terms of hours worked (8,000) and a formal training program.  Progression within the classification will depend on satisfactory on-the-job performance and successful completion of mandatory training courses. 

An individual should have: 

Requirements:

    • Possess (or willing to obtain within six months) a valid DZ driver’s license with a clean abstract and able to obtain AZR within 6 months
    • Must be in good health, supply clean medical and physically fit for year-round outdoor line work
    • Ability to climb and work at various heights in an aerial device/ and or on a pole
    • Ability to lift heavy objects
    • Normal color vision is required
    • Ability to work weekly standby duty, emergency and planned overtime 

A fully certified Journeyperson shall: 

    • Effective interpersonal communication, problem solving and customer relation skills
    • Hold a valid EDA/E&USA Journeyperson Power Linesperson Certificate or equivalent;
    • Commitment to Safety: familiarity with Occupational and Health and Safety Regulations
    • Mechanical aptitude, ability to read and interpret documentation pertinent to work (work instructions, drawings, sketches, etc.) 

    • Be experienced in the safe operation of all utility-related equipment and vehicles

    • Basic knowledge of computer applications

    • Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS will be an asset.
